AKRONPizza driver robbedAKRON: Akron police say a driver for Nunzio’s Pizza was robbed while delivering food. The driver told investigators that he was robbed at knifepoint around 5 p.m. Thursday while delivering in the 1200 block of Victory Street.The driver reported that he was invited into a house and then was held at knifepoint and robbed of his cell phone and money.The robber fled out a rear door of the house and took the driver’s vehicle, which was parked in the driveway. The driver, who was not injured, went to a nearby store to call for help. He was not injured.His car was recovered around 8 a.m. Friday in the 300 block of Mull Avenue.Teen shot at homeAKRON: Akron police say a 17-year-old Akron boy was shot around 6 p.m. Thursday.Officers were called to the 400 block of Eastland Avenue, where a teen reported that he was accidentally shot in the abdomen by a 17-year-old friend. The teen was taken to Summa Akron City Hospital by his mother. His injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.Officers recovered two guns No charges had been filed.Agency wins grantAKRON: Community Support Services has received a $459,000 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.The behavioral health-care organization will receive the money over four years. Box 278, Green, OH, 44232.NORTHEAST OHIOBath salts illegalBeginning Monday, a new Ohio law makes the purchase, sale and possession of synthetic marijuana illegal, authorities said.Popularly known as “bath salts” or “K2,” synthetic marijuana has been readily available at many convenience stores throughout the state, Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said. Walsh said taking the substance can cause adverse reactions, such as hallucinations, delusions, extreme agitation, rapid heart rate, chest pains and loss of motor control.Walsh said the substance has been linked to numerous deaths across the country and that the number of emergency calls to poison control centers has increased exponentially over last year.Criminal charges might be filed even for gifting the substance, Walsh said.TWINSBURGFire victim rescuedTWINSBURG: Firefighters rescued an elderly woman from a fire in her Ravenna Road apartment Thursday afternoon and took her to the Twinsburg Cleveland Clinic emergency room, where she was in critical condition.Rescuers responded to the call at 4:43 p.m. and found light smoke coming from the apartment. The resident was quickly removed and placed in an ambulance. She became conscious on the way to the hospital.The kitchen fire was quickly extinguished. The cause is under investigation.
